Also called as Common Earth Boa, this Boa appears to be thick and short snake with rough scale has a short fat tail. They have irregular patches/blotches over the body with variable colors from dark brown light reddish maroon. More than 2.5ft is uncommon. Sand Boas are commonly found near dry parts of the forest. Scrub jungle to dry deciduous forests. Not common in moist deciduous forests. Crepuscular in nature, it is active during dusk and dawn. Feeds on small rodents & Birds, as a member of the Boa family, it kills its prey by constricting.

Commonly used by snake charmers as a two-headed snake because of its short tail! Often mistaken as Russell’s viper or a baby Python.
