Common Krait
(Bungarus caeruleus)
A black nocturnal snake with shiny scales, having paired white colour bands till the tail. Sometimes, the bands start from the mid body & a single band near the neck; also without bands (rarely).
Length: Usually 2 - 4ft, can grow more than 5ft!
Habitat: Found in the Scrub jungles, from grasslands to deciduous forests, agricultural fields & near Human habitations.
Diet: Karits mainly eat snakes,lizards, small rodents & frogs.
Distribution: They are distributed almost allover the Indian Subcontinent.
Habits: Kraits are noctournal creatures, having short fangs with highly Nero toxic venom. Bites causes respiratory failure. Most of the bites have no initial symptoms. These snakes are responsible for a large number of fatal bites and can be easily confused with the non-venomous Wolf Snakes.
